CHAPTER SIX
jordan
I felt like I was going to be sick. What if my parents kicked me out and never wanted to see me again after telling them the truth about the man sitting by my side?
âHey,â Cash took my hand in his and ran his thumb over the back of it. âIf you decide you canât tell them this weekend, Iâll happily play your friend instead. I donât want you doing anything youâre not ready for.â
I nodded because I knew he would, but I never wanted Cash to think I was ashamed of him.
âIâm not hiding. Itâs time they learn who I really am, and if they donât like what they hear, then Iâll have to learn to deal with it.â Even I almost believed what was coming out of my mouth.
I sat staring at my childhood home for another few seconds and then snapped out of it. If I waited any longer, my parents would come out and pull me from the car. Taking a deep breath, I let it calm me before I turned off the ignition.
With my hand on the door handle, I nodded my head, prepared for anything that might come my way. âAre you ready to meet my parents?â
âYeah,â he chuckled. âI didnât think Iâd ever do this again. I kind of thought Iâd be alone for the rest of my life. Plus, growing up, most parents didnât use to like me.â He humorlessly chuckled.
Turning in my seat, I cupped the side of his face. My thumb brushed his full bottom lip and the stubble on his chin. âWell, my parents will love you. At least until I tell them that youâre my boyfriend.â
âMaybe we can wait to tell them Camiâs my sister?â He gave me a forced smile. âI donât think that tidbit is going to win me any brownie points.â
âProbably not. Theyâre not her biggest fan.â Swallowing roughly, I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car. I was desperate to take Cashâs hand in mine for moral support, but I knew that wasnât the way for my parents to learn about who I was dating.
As if sensing my need for him, Cash walked by my side, and every few steps, his fingers brushed against mine. âYouâve got this,â he murmured as the front door swung open.
âHoney, you finally decided to get out of the car,â my mom greeted me as I pulled her into a hug.
âIâm sorry. We were just talking. Itâs good to see you, mom. Is dad home yet?â
She pulled back and kissed me on the cheek. âHe got home about twenty minutes ago. Heâs already camped out in front of the television, watching the news.â
I wasnât surprised my dad was watching the news. Every day when he came home from work, he watched the news for an hour and then went about doing anything my mom wanted from her honey-do list.
âMom, this is my friend, Cash. Cash, this is my mother, Margaret.â
She smiled warmly at him. âPlease, call me Maggie.
